REMEDIAL REPORT

Due to lack of sufficient helpers we have had to discontinue the Batik painting sessions with the residents drawing, painting and colouring of pictures.

Mrs. Robin Lokman a former Vice President and Datin Brigitte Lim a former committee member and a longtime volunteer visit the Cheshire Home on Fridays.

“Prior to the Cheshire Home, I had never been involved in work like that and it gave me confidence. I learnt a lot about people and it enabled me to give back to society. I have seen how brave some of those born handicapped have been. They never give up. This has inspired me. I think that I got more from that they did from me. They have even shared their problems and tribulations with me and this has motivated me over the years.”

Meanwhile, Annette Tang was invited by her close friend Mrs. Lokman as a volunteer in 1990 after her retirement as a nurse. She was to remain as a loyal Volunteer for slightly more than a decade. (She spent only few years)

“I had an interest in social work and felt that as a trained nurse I could be use to the residents. My medical knowledge would come in handy when dealing with the disabled and their special needs. And incidentally back in the 60’s, I did my training as a nurse in England in the city of Chester which is in the district of Cheshire. So I was already quite familiar with the Cheshire Foundation.”

Tang says, “I became the Chairman of the Occupational Therapy committee at the Cheshire Home and we had a flourishing workshop at the time. Many of our residents were very hands-on and our workshop was an active ongoing effort.”
