ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Rumah Amal Chehsire Selangor and the National Council of Cheshire Homes Malaysia on the 27th of June, 2007 to implement our Economic Empowerment Project (EEP) involving Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to lead an independent lifestyle in their community. This was established within the overall programme embarked by National Council of Cheshire Home Malaysia with support from Leonard Cheshire Disability, London on disability work in the areas of advocacy and campaigning, inclusive education, economic empowerment and strengthening organizational capacity.


 
The objectives of EEP are:
To train Youth with Disabilities for employment.
To give exposure and skills together with preparation for employment.
To cooperate and work with employers, parents, guardians, support groups and the youth themselves.
   

EEP is managed by Rumah Amal Cheshire the Selangor Cheshire Home

  EEP accepts youth:
 
Between 18-26 years old
With Learning Disabilities
With Physical Disabilities
   
After the completion of their training, the trainees should be able to:
 
Work with the skills provided.
Go into business or self employed.
Assist in the family business with skills acquired.
   
Training provided by the EEP
   
  EEP provides training in the following courses:
 
Bakery : Bread and buns
ICT : Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Power Point
Microsoft Publisher

Hospitality : Housekeeping
Laundry
Handicraft : Beads stringing

Food Packaging

 
Youths with disabilities who are interested in participating in this program must attend an interview. The successful candidates will have to attend a one year training course.
   
The training courses are divided into 4 quarters.
 

1st Quarter : Character Building

2nd Quarter : Theory & Practical

3rd Quarter : Selection & Specialization

4th Quarter : Job Placement Towards Employment.

 
   
Contents of EEP Training Program for One Year
   
The training contents are specially designed so that the EEP objectives are achieved and give an opportunity for the students to assess their own capabilities and to take the number of openings provided by the various agencies.
   
The followings are the summary of the training contents of the course.
 

1st Quarter: - Orientation- getting familiar with the surrounding and system of the EEP.


- Grooming and daily living skills.
- Social skills.
- Achieving a healthy life style.
- Sexuality & medical issues.
- Time management.
- Money management.

   
   
   

2nd Quarter: Theory and Practical in the courses provided.
- Introduction to Job Specification.
- Exposure to raw materials and training tools.
- Visit to material suppliers and their location.

3rd Quarter: Matching students with the job that they are interested in.
- Selection and Specialization.
- On-Site Training.
- Testing the work process learnt.

4th Quarter: Job Placement Towards Employment.
- Working at place of employment.
- Access to Transportation.
